New to blender, what's with the view?

I feel like its a fish eye lens or something. I made this simple donut object where the top and bottom vertices are aligned, and its like looking at an MC escher drawing. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

You are in a perspective view. To toggle between perspective and orthographic views use numpad 5

And you can adjust the perspective view lens angle in Properties shelf (Key N) > View > Lens.
