New Ultra Ultra Ultra wide screen from Dell - U4917DW

Second to the 49 inch ultra ultra ultra wide, right after Samsung, but at better productivity specs.

  • higher resolution. 1440p vs 1080p
  • Better image rating

minuses:

  • lower refresh rate 60 vs 144

nice replacement for 2 x 27 inch screens side by side,

Also brings a question, do you single screen, multi screen or ultrawide your blender?

WHOA! I’d like that one! I’d swap my duals for this one in a heartbeat. No question.

not even questions about price? at 1700 usd… you can get 3 27" with probably higher specs

Still this does not make me want it less. I so would if I could afford it

If it wasn’t curved…

Honeslty it is so small of a curve that at thsi length I wouldn’t even notice, but I know that some might.

Samsung’s 49 is also curved, but at 1800R… so much more noticable.

I wouldn’t want a falt 49" as the edges would be too distorted. Having 3x27 on my desk i definitely have to angle them more towards me.

Can you put it in vertical position? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Just kidding. It must be a beast, nice monitor. But I’m not sure if I prefer that kind of ultrawide monitors, or two monitors with at least one of them having the ability to put it in vertical position.

What’s up with this stupid 1440 resolution on everything nowadays? I need more (1600) pixels in height!

I think most screens are still 1080p

Still at 1600p, that is about equal to 4k pixel count. So still possible, but that would require a lot more engineering.

But as this is basically dual 27" 1440p screen, and in general 1440p at 27" is the “perfect fit” for most people. dumping more pixels like 1600p or even 2160p in a 27" makes things unreadable.

Either way, this would be still one awesome screen to use for Blending

Samsung’s UW 49 3840 1080 4,147,200

Dell’s UW 49" 5120 1440 7,372,800
Proposed UW 49" 5690 1600 9,104,000
4k screen 3840 2160 8,294,400

I have a 30" 2560x1600 (WQXGA, 16:10) monitor at home, two at work (all Dell monitors). Perfect aspect and pixel density. 1440 or 1080 just doesn’t cut it. Some colleges has gone single 40"/43" 4k, but a quad of that is only 1920x1080 - so you either get inadequate resolution, bad screen estate management, or too dense pixels, and of course wrong aspect. There are no 2560x1600 (16:10 aspect) to be found in the places I would normally shop.

I would rather have two or three 30" 16:10 side by side over anything (4k+ included) single or double. Even at 2560 working in Blender can be painful when you try to hit that single pixel wide thing to adjust the GUI. There is a limit to how dense I want my pixels.
