Newb - How to improve this metal material on this object, so it doesnt cut off so abruptly?

I’m working on the metal ring inbetween the red glowing ring and the anisotropic metal knob.

I’m happy with the bottom half, but the area marked in yellow I think could be improved. For example there is an abrupt change between light and dark in the middle of the yellow range… and on the right hand side a little too dark. How can I improve how this metal ring looks ?

it also makes it look more 3D !

but to get rid of the differences

add more light sources all around ?

or may be add some AO in world!

happy bl

Turn up the roughness on the metal material. If you don’t want to do that then you’ll have to light the object with soft lighting.
I’d recommend the first option.

To add to this, you could also try texturing the roughness. Get a scratched or stained texture and plug it in the roughness. You might want to pass the texture through a color ramp, so you can adjust the values to the amount you are looking for.

How does it look in real life? Does what is reflected match what is reflected in real life? Does the flatness match that of the real world? And as already said, does the roughness match that of the real world?
