I am ok until the tutorial tells you to join the objects together. I’m assuming you can’t join in edit mode (at least I wasn’t able to) so I hit TAB to switch to object mode but when I select any of the objects with RMB they all turn pink. I have an extra half-sphere on the side, which I know I could delete and it would work, but I want to learn the correct way. So I hit AKEY to deselect all and same thing. I’ve tried B for box select and still can’t get it to work. I am missing something but I cannot figure out what. Could someone please fill in the step/steps that I am missing? Thanks in advance
Nah, you just move the vertices/edges/faces/whatever in Edit mode with the G key. Hold down ctrl for precise movement (it sort of locks the model to the grid, so its more precise)
If I understand correctly where you’re at, you need to be in Object mode, and then select all the objects, and press CTRL+J to join them all together. From there you can continue to fill in the space around the “dots” as per the tutorial.
I find that the tutorial you are using loads too many polys onto a new user that it’s easy to make mistakes that are hard to correct, which is why I made the tutorial.
Anyway, Istigkeit is right, just press ctrl-j to join selected objects in editmode. If you have accidentally joined too many objects, you can undo actions with ctrl-z or you can just go into editmode and delete the vertices.
Sometimes vertices are hard to select if there are a lot of them so the best thing is to make sure there are no faces joining the bit you want to delete from the rest of the model. Select one vertex on it and press ctrl-l. That will select all the vertices connected to it automatically.
For example, if you join half a sphere to the die but don’t connect any faces and if you go into editmode, select a vertex on the semi-sphere and hit ctrl-l, it will select the semi-sphere without selecting the rest of the die with it.
Thanks for the replies. Sorry my question wasn’t that clear. I knew how to join the objects but my problem was that I was duplicating the objects in edit mode and I didn’t realize that blender wouldn’t make them separate objects. Now I know.
Osxrules, I will definitely try your technique for making a die. Its nice to see the many different ways to model. Thanks.
