newbie question: where are rendered animations saved?

I’ve just started producing animations on Blender (Mac OS X) but can’t find the rendered files. Where are they?

Cheers

Normally on the C: Drive in a folder called tmp but you can change this to whatever you want!
Don’t know if that’s the same for macs though. :-/

yea it’s the same with macs, only the default folder is hidden very, very well - actually to the extent that it’s impossible to retrieve in Finder as I’ve now discovered :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks.

It’s not impossible to retrieve, you just have to search for “invisible” files and folders.

In 10.3.9 you do this by “Apple-F” on the desktop then by selecting “Visibility” from the first drop down option (default “Name”) and selecting “Invisible” or “Visible and Invisible” from option 2. Enter “tmp” in the search field and you should find the folder somewhere. I’m sure similar options would be available in 10.4+

Open the folder and drag the movie file onto the desktop or into a hidden folder.

For future reference, it’s best to set a path to ensure Blender puts the file where you want it. You can set a default path by saving it as part of your UI prefs defaults so files will always go to somewhere visible in the future, even if you forget to specify a new path each time.

thanks andy - i didn’t realise you could do that in os x. I’ve now discovered the setting to change the directory - finding it strange though how jpgs won’t save unless you click ‘animate’, let the frame render, and then ‘play’. The images just don’t seem to appear otherwise.

To save a single JPEG image you press F12 to render it then press F3 to save it (the file browser/saver opens in one of the windows - choose location from here). These commands can also be found under the Render and File menus respectively.
