I have done some captures to show your “navi.png” mat and the other three I already have but not show yet in this thread.

Replace the old image please

Much more “na’vi” now. :stuck_out_tongue:

Look at the effect I was talking about in this photo. She is lighted in blue from their Jupiter-like planet
(Pandora is a Moon orbiting a Jupiter-like planet and you see the giant “eye” of Jupiter also there in that planet)
and where that light from “Jupiter” don’t hits her skin it gets illumination from the forest.
I tried days ago achieve a matcap of that but I didn’t worked well and I liked more the “lighting” of viewports by default of Blender.

A curiosity: In this picture you can see (very clearly in the background blurred) the noise they used to try a more photorrealistic result.
Also the picture has a subtle blur in all the image. These things make it more real and I will use them too.

Work in the clavicle area and tail. Little update but time to post blend file again:

Taking a break from the body:

Too big legs, too small chest. The breast should be further down on the body. And the belly from the front should be smoother. Add a few loops on there. Face looks awesome, body needs work…

Jeah, that’s good. Pleace, show me a single strand from the side. I want to understand the principle of a braid.

Sorry I worked on the body but not posted the changes. Here is the body as it is now. Also I included the picture that I am following to get the proportions. I think the breast is rightly placed (but the breasts have not yet the right size and shape I think).
I also changed some things in the face and I think it is now much more likeness. I will post some closeups when I go back to the ears and head.

Just now I am having fun with the hair and also trying some things to animate it (just learning softbody just now). So perhaps some days without updates because it is time of learning the blender wiki manual and looking at funny test animations. But soon I go back to legs (knee area and upper leg) and then back to ear.

Do you know do it with rope? I did the same with a curve (path). Then I deleted the other two and tried to understand the maths on it placing a “grid” below. In short it was:
Two control points in height “0”, then 1 control point in height “1” and then two control points in height “2” and then two control points in height “0” (without another control point in height “1” this surprised me!!). All these creating a curve to the left and ending in the same verticality as the start. Now we are going to start a curve to the right and end again in verticality with the start: 1 control point height “1”, two control points height “2” and two control points in height “0”.
You have one strand, create a duplicate and join to have a much larger strand. Now duplicate two times this one larger and move the two new ones to get the braid in place.

The variations you see in the pic I posted are done just entering edit mode and selecting all the control points and scaling only in the direction of the braid. The thickness is just a value you change in the path. Very easy. I am thinking of incorporate variations to the entire braid now changing with a lattice probably or perhaps a curve.

Some things can probably be ignored, but maybe if you look at the chest. the rib cage is very far down on the body. And the tummy is so small and tiny. Bring the rib cage up just a little bit. The feet could maybe be a bit bigger from the front view. I don’t know about the knee, it seems very far down. But maybe that is a navi thing. Also still it looks like she has mega legs if you compare to her upper body. If it wouldn’t be for the breast you could think she was male from the side view. Also the breast, if you look at the reference needs to be less hanging. Also is really her cintura that thin, maybe you could search for a front view for better reference

.

I will check all these points and post also reference images because it is difficult for you and others look for things wrong without seeing the reference images. I think you are correct. Looking at the feets again after you pointed it I also see how the side view in her left one is not correct (mine is much higher than she has in the reference pic).
I think she is in the movie exactly as seen in that reference picture, so she has really larger legs and don’t follow human proportions.
Thanks for the suggestions !!!.

I followed the link of the drawing you posted (that has many incorrect things, five fingers for example and bad proportions like the thick of arms) and I found an interesting other tut on that site… (so, Neytiri is size A) I think I am going to change the shape following this one.

Really, I need someone posting in the CGTalk thread this: “Bao continues the Neytiri WIP here” (with “here” with a link to first page of this thread). Please.

I created a video Making a Braid. See it in HD !!! No sound.

this is totally awesome  it looks just like angelina jolie!!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… finish that and ill marry her

In my opinion the head is too small compared to the rest of the body. Anyway that’s awesome, keep up the great job

LOL Now I think I need to build her quickly a bow to defend from these loving humans !!!

Yes, I think the head also needs be just a little little more big.

Meta-Androcto: Thanks man!

Cool, saw this on CGTalk the other day, good to see it here on BA.

I know its early days, but really the topology needs work, as I’m sure your aware :eyebrowlift2:

Please post some more!

Many days without updates… I bet someone was thinking I was banned too here! :spin:

First: A Braid tutorial much better than mine.

Well… I was trying a rig for the braid, and I hit a wall: gimbal lock (making the braid rotate 180 degrees abruptly from one frame to the next when the braid goes from -X to +X). Not solved yet. I decided study first some videos and try later (these videos in BlenderFoundation’s youtube).

After that I started to work in Neytiri’s knee. It sucked badly so I realized I need study first with some female references and only then, when I understand that area try with Neytiri. So I did this model and I plan tomorrow to try to adapt this leg to Neytiri (with the apropriate deformations) or perhaps only the knee area. (And Yes, the reference was Klara Neytirova… :stuck_out_tongue: )
