no file is created when i render

i have been using blender for a month or so now and it had been working fine until yesterday.
my computer crashed whilst rendering a project (i think it over heated) and since then, every time i render something it shows the rendered result in the image viewer but no file is actually created.
i even tried installing the latest version (v2.57b) of blender but the problem remains.

does anyone have any idea whats gone wrong?

No file was ever created when you rendered an image previously. Use the Image / Save as Image menu on the render window header or F3. The output location in the render settings is for rendered animations only.

thanks for your quick reply! i must have confused myself, it was an animation i was trying to render, but its working fine now. thanks again :slight_smile:
