Non-Commercial Renderman won't render at all in both Blender 4.1.1 and Maya 2022, for some reason

Yesterday, I successfully installed Non-Commercial Renderman 26.3 on both of my computers (which both have these two applications), but when I try to render anything in Blender, a message appears after a few seconds, that says “Could not connect on the stabs server. Aborting…” and when I try to render anything inside of Maya (since I wanted to use Non-Commercial Renderman for both applications), it will just crash. By going in the “C:\Program Files\Pixar\RndermanProServer-26.3\bin\LicenseApp.exe”, I see that it has a firewall icon at the bottom right of the executable. What kind of solution would you suggest and could the problem be elsewhere?

Also, my PC hardware specifications are:

  1. Windows edition: Windows 10 Pro
  2. processor: Intel Xeon CPU E3-1240 v5
  3. display adaptor: NVIDIA Quadro K2200
  4. installed RAM: 32,0 GB
  5. Dell Precision 3620

and:

  1. Windows edition: Windows 10 Pro
  2. processor: Intel Core i5-440 CPU
  3. display adaptor: NVIDIA Geforce GT 640
  4. installed RAM: 8,00 GB

Have you checked the installation instructions.

And I think Addon supports blender 4.3.

I don’t use RenderMan, so I’m not sure about that issue.

No worries. I did check the installation instructions and I mainly watched YouTube videos about the process.

I’m sure it supports Blender 4.1 also (and some of the versions above and below this one). It can be used, because the user interface and the render settings exist. I’m saying this, because when I tried to load the addon in Blender 4.0 (the version that I was originally using and which also was one of the versions that weren’t supported by the addon) it was showing error messages and I couldn’t even load it in that version.

I even tried to look if there were problems with the license server application, but it was totally fine, except it had a firewall icon at the bottom.

RenderMan for Blender 26.0 (2323370) supports blender 4.1 if you check the release information on the link.

Rendering engines are more difficult to operate than other Addons, so this may be a problem.

And there are many differences between blender 4.1 and blender 4.2.
This version is more than just a version upgrade.

I’m not sure my opinion will help solve the problem. :slightly_smiling_face:

Well, if you look at the information that is given in the docs, it’s becoming quite clear that if a version of Blender would not be supported, it would be metioned by Pixar.

For example, in the docs for version 26.3 (in the installation and licensing topic), it is clearly stated that it can be used with “Blender 3.0+ and Blender 4.1+”.

And the version mentioned on the addon’s title has to match the version of Non-Commercial Renderman you are downloading (and you can’t have access to older versions, unless if you have a commercial license, from what I learned from others).

To be exact, it’s blender 3.6 and blender 4.1.
I can’t give you any more information because I can’t test the problem

blender 3.6 is quite different from its lower version.
blender 3.6 is a version that allows you to use both the lower version and the higher version of the file.
※ Files created in Blender 3.6 or later versions cannot be opened in Blender 3.6 or earlier versions.

I’m not sure if this is related to the issue. (Excerpt from the link)

[Furthermore, advanced options for finding the RenderMan Pro Server location

are in the addon preferences.]

Add…

I looked it up in various ways, but I don’t think there’s an appropriate answer.

Take a look at the writing on the MAYA forum.

The best option is to look for the same issue in the RenderMan forum.

If it’s a firewall-related issue, you can exclude RenderMan from the security settings.

Or try running a blender or Maya as an administrator (right-click, run as an administrator)
A typical Windows user account would not be a administrator account.
