Not able to use x-axis mirror in sculpt mode :(

So I am a complete beginner following one of blender cookies old YouTube guides "how to make a realistic head part… "

I just retopologized my bust, and I want to be able to see the mirror side of the head in sculpt mode (rather than purely half the head) so I’m under the impression to do that I must first apply the mirror modifier and THEN go into sculpt mode and use symmetry… however when I check symmetry nothing happens;

Also I did enable clipping and merging in edit mode and I think I have all my verts lined up and merged along the line of symmetry, so I don’t think the problem is my sculpt not being perfectly symmetrical, but i could be wrong.

I believe it is modifier stack issue, for a precised answer we will a blend file :wink:

You need to have the mirror modifier on top of the multiresolution modifier.
