I’m new to 3d and I discovered the wonder that is blender just 2 weeks ago. I just finished the modeling section of the “Noob to Pro” tutorials. So these are my first very simple renderings, and they were exceedingly difficult for me (it took the better part of a day). But I’m determined to learn this stuff so please give me your feedback, specifically if there is a better way to do the modeling. I already know that it’s not exactly like the real terminator skull - I’d be more interested in hearing your techniques.
I started with a UVsphere and a photo of the skull from a couple angles in my background. I decided to cut the sphere in half vertically, and work with only one side of the face so I wouldn’t have so many vertices confusing me, then I’d duplicate the other side later. I scaled the sphere to match the basic shape of the skull, then I’d select vertices, and use the proportional edit falloff as I dragged them inward or outward to imitate all the bumps and dips. Then I would subdivide faces as needed to get more detail and cut out the holes of the skull where it needed. Then I rounded the edges of the holes, added the teeth, the fire background, and two cylinder eyes with lamps in them to make them glow. I couldn’t get the reflective metallic look I wanted using the preset Chrome material settings I found in the “noob to pro” tutorial, so I ended up just applying the fire image texture to the skull itself.
