NV22 23-24: Creative Block

As an artist, sometimes you just get stuck on something. The solution is right around the corner, but you can’t see it. You just focus on that one issue between you and your goal. It may appear to be an “impossible path”, but it’s not.

That’s exactly what happened to me this weekend. I lost my motivation and nearly gave up after scrapping my initial concept that just didn’t work as well as I’d initially planned.

But I eventually overcame this obstacle, and instead decided to make an artwork about the experience itself.

I’m sure some of you will be able to relate.

The maze generator was quite a challenge for me, as I had little to no previous experience with the shortest path nodes, but I managed to get it to work after some trial and error. It’s definitely not the best maze generator, but it serves its purpose.

The barrier, the protagonist, and the goal were all textured with SDFs. I used Inigo Quilez’s formulas for the rounded X and the star.
