Can you move an object center and leave the geometry where it is in world coordinates?
Yes, in edit tab (F9) there are 3 buttons, centre, centre new, centre cursor.
These three will move the object center.
If you want it a specific place, put the 3d cursor at that location, and then hit centre cursor.
