objects appear black in 3d window

i’m having a weird isue with blend 2.45. i have an object that has been uv mapped (following greybeards tutorial) which renders fine when i hit f12, but which appears black in the 3d window when set to textured view.

any ideas?


Flipped normals? CTRL+N>Recalculate Normals Outside with all verts selected in edit mode.
