Ocean modifier: Why can't give higher resolution for render than Viewport?

I only need higher resolution for render, but can’t give.
If “Resolution Viewport” is 32, maximum for render is 32, if 64 maximum for render is 64 etc… When giving 128 for Viewport Blender *easily crashes.

You can input it, but it consumes too much memory.
If the default setting is 100, it goes beyond 24gb. :sweat_smile:

I can adjust the viewport and render resolution independently in Blender 3.6.

A test with viewport = 7 and render = 19 rendered in about one minute (gpu render, 2x1070ti). Not much RAM and gpu memory used. CPU near 100%. Viewport showed simpler low res ocean. Render showed high res ocean.

Likewise, I can input whatever value I want for viewport and render.

@Pedro_V, are you dragging the slider, or typing the value in?

Thanks for answers, friends. I know it takes memory (when rendering it takes over 64GB RAM → “Out of memory”, but with smaller circle it takes “only” 50GB)

Succeeded it first disabling whole collection, also the plane with ocean modifier. Then giving amount 128 to both and it happened immediately. Baking tow hours and it looks good now.

I tested both.

I can give Resolution Viewport number 10 and in Render amount 32, but not more.
If RV is 20, then can dragging Render slider to 32 but immediately when I release mouse button, it goes back to 20…
