This spaceship is a project I’ve been working on for a while. I intend to do full plating and also some greebling on it.
You are off to a great start with this! I can’t wait to see the progress!
Hi there! I think your ship has a lot of potential, but there are some things with the panels that glare out at me:
- I think the reason why you weren’t happy with how they were turning out is that they don’t fit with the smooth contours of the main superstructure because they have a lot of sharp angles. You might be better off with doing a smooth style panel that looks more organic and would work better with the smooth flow of the hull.
- The panels are too small. I think you might be trying to make the ship look more massive by using small panels, but this only works to a point. To make a ship look more massive, you need multiple levels of detail.
- There is an obvious Z-axis mirror that gives you a straight line right down the middle on the side. If you’re going to get rid of this after you apply the mirror modifier it shouldn’t be as noticeable. Generally, I only mirror from one side to the other, not top and bottom. I also model panels as separate meshes from the main superstructure just so that I can use different modifier settings.
Anyway, keep it up :D! And if you have any concept art or any other details of your ship, post that up too because it’ll help us know where you’re going with the design!
