This is a cool effect. Can I ask how you did it?
Thanks! I used blender internal and checked the particle trail option. Set the value high like to about 10+ so it looks nice. Used some mblur too.
A nice way of doing such things I found is to use emission shaders with motion blur set to a high value.
Where is particle trail option ?
Particle System -> Render -> Trail Count
its a shame cycles doesn’t support particle trails! i could have really used this effect on a project i just did, but needed cycles to render it as a 360 panorama.
Actually, you can use a particle system that’s made to use an object with a volumetric material (just make sure the object doesn’t move).
The only limitation is that each object has to be extremely close to each other, there’s no way around it as Cycles motion blur only supports three steps and deformation blur does not deform texture coordinates (so your only hope for trails is solid colored objects).
