Particle objects being displayed in UI w/wireframe, okay in Render

The particles my emitter is spitting out in Object mode display in the viewport/UI with wireframe, although the mesh they are referencing is not set to wireframe. They render fine, so it’s not any kind of showstopper, just an annoyance.

Is this just something the particle system does, or is there a switch I’m missing somewhere? Tnx.
