Particle System With a wave modifier?

Hello!

I am currently working through an animation and am looking to add particles to a wave modifier. I am not sure if this is possible and was wondering if someone could show me how it is done so that the particles are only on the waves not the whole emitter object.

The goal is to create a fluorescent fluid effect that as the waves crash into the middle it illuminates the 10 years

I didn’t use a particle system but Geometry Nodes…
