Particles VS ALT D

Hi, I am wondering what takes less cpu power and ram and resources?

I am making stacks of kitchen stuff. I could use a particle system or I could use ALT D to create many instances of the same object. Which would use less resources?

Particles, because alt-d will create new objects. They share the object data but the objects are still created.
You can easily test this by making 8000 or so alt-d cubes. Blender will grind to a halt sooner or later.
With particles you can have millions and still have a more or less performant scene.
