Photo Texture

I am a noob with Blender. Im busy with making a Steampunk plane and its going really well. But I have a problem with the textures. In the texture setting I selected Photo/Image and I picked an image, but how can I assign it to th cube, without unwrapping?

So what’s the render engine that you’re using? The cycles render or the default Blender internal renderer?
