I used References from 3d.sk to model the face and also for texturing after that.
Also I had to figure out a way to render hair in Cycles but in the end I decided to use just image planes with textures on them. The material is basicly a Diffuse shader mixed with a transparent shader and using an alpha map as the factor value at the mix nod.
Then there are also the eyelashes. I modeled them starting from one hair and then copying , moving, scaling, … it.
The eyes themselves are made of two layers (one for glossy and one for diffuse) but I think I should improve it (especially the glossy one).
In the corner of the eye I have also put something in but it looks really bad so far so I’ll improve that.
The ears look also a bit plane and the texture is quiet incorrect + no SSS (I’ll have to fake it).
Similar things have to happen with to neck too. So mainly the texturing
Next I’ll solve each one of these problems and try to achieve a photorealistic portrait as a result.
its looking good i cant tell from the image so il suggest it anyway, you should have some bump mapping on the skin. Also for hair, you could render the hair in bi and then join the images togeather…
Wow, she is looking very good so far. Are you doing just a portrait picture or are you making the whole character? I will definitely check back on this and see how its going, good work mate!!!
Well actually I have already modeled the whole character but I took just the head for this portrait.
I don’t know yet how I’m going to use the body but I’ll think of something.
This must be the most interesting WIP thread I’ve seen in a long time. Looking great!
What technique do you use for the textures? Texture painting in Blender or Photoshop/GIMP?
Both of them. I normally start with the textur-painting tools in Blender and after that I change some parts with photoshop (things like the hair or eyelashes which I don’t want to see in the texture).
Doing great progress there. What comes to the background I’d keep it simple so the focus stays on the model that looks excellent so far. Something like a bedroom wall, a rock on a beach, surfboard. Beach comes to mind when looking at her clothes.
Depends on the mood you’re trying to set.
