After years of struggling with Blender, I decided to revisit an old passion of mine, making pipe organs in large cathedrals. The first time I built a pipe organ model, it was in Caligari trueSpace 1.02 in 1996. I was limited by the software and hardware at the time. Today, those limitations are removed.
I started out modeling the organ as a separate project, then the console, then the pedal board and bench and combined them into this project. It is still a work in progress. To be done is add more detail to the building and maybe a person sitting at the organ.
This animation was rendered at a fixed time limit of 20 seconds per frame on RTX3090 at 4K resolution.
I am gradually reaching a level of “shaky” competence with some of the features in Blender. My recent installation of the RTX3090 made my learning process much more gratifying, with realtime results in Cycles. I seldom use EEVEE anymore, so now I can see lighting and shadow, just as it will look in final render.
