Please help; need to set sides of items to white unshaded

Dear all,

Is there anyone who could set the sides of all of the items on the grey board so that they have white unshaded sides? Please see photo:

that looks like a 2d photo set. gimp would be better for that than blender.

Make a new material that is white, and set it to shadeless in the material options.

Daaark how do you apply this material to the sides whilst keeping the front the original material?
