poly reducer in 2.6+ ?

Hi all !

I’m currently searching for a way to reduce poly on a mesh.
I remember in the old days, the ol’faithfull 2.49b had a script in mesh menu that allowed to reduce poly count. I was pretty convenient, worked fine and didn’t mess up the UVs.

Is there the same thing in 2.63 ?

thanks for your answers.

If you want to maintain UVs you’ll have to use blender 2.49 and this script with your model. The decimate modifier removes the uvs

It is indeed a great 2.49b script, even if it was a bit slow, i used it a lot for quickly generating lods that were roughly preserving the UV, a great time savior.
Someone tried to start porting it to 2.6x a few months ago and attached his attempt to this bug tracker entry.

I can’t say how much it is compatible with current version of Blender though, as i continue to use 2.49b each time i need a model to use the Poly Reducer :

ok Sanctuary & Richard. I gonna give a try on this script.

Would be a real deception to have to get back to 2.49b because of major lacks in the sea of useless thingies in 2.6+.
This means that mebe i rushed too fast on recent blender versions…

thx for your advice
