prepping for rigging

A question. I hear two different schools of thought on prepping for rigging and not sure which is the best. Would it be better to break your model into separate objects such as head, hands, arms, etc before commencing to build a rig or should it stay as one object? Any thoughts>

It plays smoother with several objects thanks to multihtreading, also easier for material assignment, uvmaps (there’s a maximum number of 8 uvmaps/object) and you need less vertex groups to restrict modifier influence, etc etc. so it’s usually better with several objects.

Hey, I never thought about this multithreading stuff, nice trick !
I think it’s more in the game / realtime field that it’s better to have all in the same mesh.

several object is indeed easier to manage, no need to have everything separated I guess tho…
