Preserve Position Data After Offsetting (Geometry Nodes)

Trying to achieve:

after

same position data is preserved but points are flattened.

What it would look like if I flattened it normally, lost position values:


Current Setup:

value is just camera location and position node in vector distance.

Alternate Idea: Or maybe there is a way where I don’t need to physically offset the points but the values still shift as if it were displaced.

actually, does storing named attribute before then offsetting work?

This mountain offset is before or after you preview that black/white range? From the screenshot I assume is after, but the description of your issue make it seem like is before? I’m a little confused.
What effect are you trying to achieve with this setup?
