problem to have a dynamic reference for an object in the geometry node.
Good morning ,
I use blender to create road in Blender, then export them to I3d files
with the Giants Software module ,and use after in the “giants editor” (editor for farming simulator game)
I have a collection with different mechs all modified from a single curve.
which allows me to quickly create sections of roads .
in theory I just have to duplicate the collection; edit the curve.
in practice I have problems because as soon as I duplicate the collection, the references to
objects in the new collection, are not modified and point to the original curve.
I can modify them manually. but since I will have a few hundred sections of roads to create. I would like to find a more automatic solution, when duplicating collections.
No simple way of doing that automatically. Best you can do is to drag the orange object reference to the group input and then set it on the modifier tab for each copy.
You could try putting all you curves into a collection and then putting the collection into the GN setup.
Then build a couple of nodes to cycle through all curbes by index. That way you would only have to increase the index number instead of dragging curves from the outliner.
Keep in mind that objects can be in more than one collection, just in case you want to keep your object hierarchy.
In this setup, when duplicating a Collection, the reference object would be set to a new copy automatically, so you shouldn’t have to actually do anything manually.
