Problem viewing through camera

I’ve probably changed a setting or something, but I can’t use a camera to look at my object. When I hit ‘0’ to see the cameras view, it seems to think one of the mesh’s is the camera and moves to the mesh. If I press ctrl+alt to move the camera, it will move an object instead of the camera! If I try and render, I just get a black screen.

I can post the file if it is not clear from my description.

You must have set that object to be the active camera. Not only camera objects can be cameras, objects and lamps can be as well.
You set which object you want to be the active camera by selecting it in the Scene / Scene / Camera options or by selecting the object and either using the View / Camera menu or by pressing Ctrl+Numpad 0
