Problem with boolean modifier

Whenever I use the boolean tool, instead of connecting the edges between existing vertices, it makes a new vertex in the middle of of an edge.

I have to manually connect these vertices, which is frustrating and takes time.

Am I doing something wrong?

You always have to manually clean up the geometry after a boolean. The model looks fairly uniform like a grid so you could model a square with a circle part, and just duplicate it or use array modifiers. Then just attach the outer frame sections together. It would also be better to model in way with lesser detailed circles that can me turned into a smoothed circular shape after a subdivision modifier is applied.

For a concave n-gon you always will have some “inner” edge… has something to do with how internal structure used… for general polugon modeling this is fine…
In some nurb based modeller this is different… (but) also you do not have n-gons but surfaces in there…
