Problem with Reflecting Glare

So I checked out Andrew Price’s free chapter of Wow Factor, “Reflecting Glare” and followed it step by step. I’m almost positive I got all of the compositing correct, but I still end up with the following:

I figured it had something to do with most of the gun being yet untextured, but I’m not seeing anything in the way of glare on the woodblock below, which obviously is textured. (that’s another issue- why is it so faded white?)

I believe the problem is you have no strong highlights to make a glare out of, try rendering with some stronger lighting, and with the specularity turned up.
