Problems changing materials

Hello.

I have modeled a piece of cloth form the body of a model, then I selected the polygons that form that piece of cloth, and I hace separated it from the model. My first problem is that when I change the diffuse color of the clothes, being now a separate object from the original model, it changes the original model color too and I don’t know why if they are now different objects.

My other problem is that when I export the clothes and then import it in other model file, and then change the color of the
clothes, selecting all it’s polygons, some polygons don’t change, and I have to select them manuelly to change them. I don’t understand why this happens either, and I’m afraid it can affect the baking and texturing procces. Can someone help me?

Because they are using the same material. The materials is a datablock and any number of objects can use that same bit of data.
You will need to make the material you wan to change a single user by pressing on the number next to its name (the number indicates the number of objects using that material)

Show us by supplying the blend file and explain EXACTLY what you want and what error you are seeing (screenshots as a minimum)

Ok, here are some pics. In the third you see the piece of cloth, that is a poncho or something like that. In the other two you see that I have changed the color of the object, but some polygons don’t change, even if they were selected along the rest.

What I want is know if this problem can affect a baking and texturing process, and how to solve it.
