Prochain Métro

Let me introduce you to my local metro. We now have two lines in service, this is a drawing of the first one, opened in march 2002, which made Rennes the smallest city in the world to have a metro until 2008.

The train is a VAL (Véhicule Automatique Léger, or light automatic vehicle), is obviously bigger than my drawing but not that much. People from bigger cities like Paris often laugh when they see our trains for the first time.

Every asset has been drawn especially for this scene, textures have been procedurally generated, hand drawn with Gimp or directly imported from my public service communications, depending on what looked best.

I know it’s a public utility, but you’re conveying comfort and simplicity here. That’s nice work.

Thank you for your nice feedback

We often complain about our metro system here, mainly because of frequent technical failures, BUT “comfort and simplicity”, as you said, is why we love it and why I wanted to draw it. Everything is clean, always, there are extremely few advertising billboards (only one per platform, I think), everything is tiles, or wood, or stylized metal, with direction signs. A few years ago there weren’t even closed gates, only card readers, that was wonderful.

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
