Hello, this is my first time stepping into the light of day with my Blender work, I work for a small company and handle all the web/graphic things, we’re launching a new range of water filters soon, exciting stuff ;), but I didn’t have any actual items to photograph when it came time to start the website and brochures etc. With the items being exceedingly simple I built them in blender but I’m only an enthusiastic amateur with no experience in professional 3D or product photography, hell I’ve not even had any training in web design, sometimes I wonder how I got this job.
Anyway I would really love some feedback from some of you guys, particularly in the areas of texturing/rendering/camera setup, but anything would be welcome.
Good job. The join on the lid is a great touch, it makes it more believable. Good solid modelling. Is the screw at the top really a screw? Or slanted circular extrusions?
I think the trouble is that on one hand you obviously want it to look new and clean, but on the other hand, too clean makes it look false.
have you tried adding a very subtle amount of grunge to the main part? The same goes for the lettering… Maybe mix in an image of a brushed metal texture just to get a bit of variation.
Still, about time the wonderful world of water filters had some limelight… (I can hardly talk, I’m modelling cogs at the moment…)
Hey, Mattolf, really good start. What type of material is this filter made of? The cap looks like made of plastic, but the rest of the image is so bright, that it is hard to see what material is meant. It could be plastic as well but also filled glass.
There are others as well on Blendswap already set up, but be sure to check out the licensing stuff since this really is a commercial project. If nothing else you can do your own, and use these as a guide.
MonkMonk- The screw was a torus that I deleted a section of and scewed a little then repeated with an array and joined back up, if anyone knows a simpler way please let me know . I shall give the foil print a bit of attention it is just a mix of a diffuse and gloss shader currently.
minoribus- The filter body is ceramic clay, it has ever so small red and dark grey flecks throughout and very shallow horizontal bush marks across its surface, the bump map show up quite nicely in super close ups but is lost at any sort of distance and it disappears entirely with the slight blur.
harleynut97- I’ll do a version on an infinite plane and see which looks best I think I started out with one but became obsessed with 100% white backgrounds and couldn’t light it properly so just used a plane.
I’m trying to find a picure of the material that shows up some of the detail but in every pic the detail in the ceramic is lost so I guess I’m doing it right then, I probably shouldn’t be emphasising details that aren’t really visible in real photo’s
Hello i’ve snaped some very poor quality photo’s so sorry about the quality, I noticed I may have under valued the shine on the cap, ignore the difference in lengths this isn’t our final product though it is made of the same materials and shares 80% of the design but is 3 inches shorter with a longer screw and no rubber washer. We don’t acually have our final item yet.
