Questions about realistic human body model proportions

Hi guys!

So I have a few questions about human body ratios for models aimed at being realistic looking human bodies.

I am making a ton of progress with getting my body models much more accurate though I still have a long ways to go.

The next step for me is to look at my body proportions. Yes, I tried google searching this but was not able to find helpful information

For example, one question I have is, is there a ratio for the length of an arm to the length of a leg?

What about arm span to overall height?

The issue that I am currently coming across is that after I create my model, it tends to look off in terms of body proportions. Either the legs look far too long or the arms do not come down enough.

I am trying to learn to get my proportions right to make my model look more realistic.

Is there any books on animation or just a guide that anyone can recommend? Both my google-fu and youtube-fu have failed me on this search.

I attached a picture of the model I am working on. It is my first attempt at a more realistic human body and for a first attempt I am happy with the progress but the proportions look very wrong and I am having a lot of trouble getting them right.

And yes, I do know that no 2 people are exactly alike, but I have to imagine that there is a rough guideline on what the proportions generally tend to be close to.

Thank you guys in advance!

Even though every body type is different, there are always a consistent proportions/ratios among body areas of the individuals

Checkout Loomis’s books on human figure, you can find free downloads of those books.

Hi, may as first start look for “Golden Cut” in art.

For a list of concrete measurements, try searching for “anthropometric data”.
My first try landed me here:
https://dined.io.tudelft.nl/en/database/tool
You select one of the free data sets (like durch adults), age groups, male or female or both. And then place a checkmark for the sizes you want to compare, like height, arm lenght, shoulder height, elbow height, etc. And you get the average measurements (aka. mean, or 50% precentile).
