Quick Cycles rendering question

Hi all,

I’ve just started out in Blender, and am very interested in tweaking with the Cycles renderer settings. I’m a bit unfamiliar with this, as I’ve been used to configuring rendering settings with the default scanline renderers in 3dsmax/Maya.

From the documentation, it seems that Cycles is a raytracing engine, is that correct? If so, why are there features listed as “not supported”? Does it mean it will not render correctly in Cycles, or does it fallback to the CPU for that?

Don’t know which feature you are referring to, but to support a feature in render engine it must be specifically implemented. Not all renderers are created equal.

For Cycles, some features only work on CPU at the moment because getting things work on GPU is not always the easiest thing.
