Quick Fur curve placement

I have been using the new curve-based hair system in Blender since it was introduced, and so far have focused empty curves for human hair, beards, etc. Works beautifully.

Now I am trying to use quick fur for animals and have immediately run into a problem.

When the Fur node is applied to a normal-size animal mesh (a dog about 60 cm tall), the default curves are much to long and far too widely spaced.

The length I can fix with a trim curves modifier. But I can find no way to increase the density of the curve placement. As it is, now, the animal’s face is almost devoid of any curves, meaning it can’t be groomed. Other detailed areas such as the tail, etc., present problems.

Ideally I’d like to be able to adjust the distance between the initial curves and then interpolate the remaining hair curves from there.

Is this possible? Or is this not how quick fur is intended to be used?

Apologies if this is under the wrong topic.
