Quickie Landscape method

Quickie landscape: I start with one of my old
rice paper-acrylic abstract collages (top).
Square it up in GIMP; in Blender uv-unwrap it to a plane;
in sculpt mode raise high value and saturated patches;
push down other patches; tilt the plane; adjust lights;
click the smooth button; tweak small amounts of
normals and displacement; render. Done (bottom).
It’s not really realistic, but it’s fantasy and space
opera friendly.

Here is the same landscape after a bit of nudging with Blender internal’s texture nodes and a few other tweaks.
