Random Polygon Scale?

I may be going about this wrong but … is there a way to randomize the scale of some polygons (excluding Z)? In the pic used individual extrude then scale toward the cursor (excluding Z axis) but want it to be randomized without affecting the size of the polygons just as if random height toward the center … (hopefully u get the idea)

You can use in edit mode…Select > Random and set buy Select or De-select, as well as percent selected and or a seed…

Still has to be manually scaled…and after first pass will start to select sides as well…

Thanks. As I mentioned not sure if I’m going about this right so let me explaina a bit more … I don’t know if you are familiar with a very recent intro for TechSource channel on Youtube but trying to create the 3D Tunnel.

OK…as stated above…
First add a cylinder… 64 vertices…edit mode add even number of loop-cuts to form almost square faces…use the face select mode and random selection and extrude by individuale faces or normals…in the select random again and this time deselect and then extrude again…repeat till you like the results…duplicate and move to form tube rotate second on 45 or 90…then add an array modifier…then you could add a curve and a curve modifier to bend the array as shown in the tunnel.

Ok thanks, has been helpful.
