Final Version!
Coming Along. Still a little polishing to do!
Ugh, It’s becoming painfully obvious that I’m really slow at modeling. I didn’t get it done in time for Swordtember 12 but maybe one day I will get a guard made for it…

looking nice
can you explain how you did the handle in 3D?
did you use the array or twist modifier ?
have fun
happy bl
The short answer is I did a lousy interpretation of Jonjo Hemmens’ incredible work found here: https://gamesartist.co.uk/RAPIER-HAND-SWORD/
The more in depth version: I did a twist on three circles for the main shape and then separated out the horizontal edge loops and converted them to curves. Then I used the array and curve modifiers to sweep another smaller twist of three circles along each cross-section of the main shape.
After that, I attempted to apply all the modifiers so that I could scale the overall result so that it would be a little more ergonomic but the resulting mesh was ridiculous so I didn’t do much with that.
Hope that helps. let me know if you have any more questions or advice!!!
I’m calling this one done. The final version isn’t much different than the previous post, I just tweaked the shape of the hand guard a bit and changed the background. The compositing was done in photoshop.
