ReaBl : A studio-grade pipeline between Blender and Reaper

Hello Fellow Blenderheads,

I’m very excited to introduce a new Blender add-on I’ve been working on lately: ReaBl.

I’m a user of Blender’s Video Sequence Editor, and it is my editing tool. Although I know and appreciate the benefits of other editing software, Blender is the place where I feel at home.

However, I think we have to admit that one one of the biggest limitations we face in Blender is that its audio editing tools are still very limited.

ReaBl is the studio-grade pipeline between Blender and Reaper for professional scoring, transport synchronization, Foley, and timeline-accurate creative work. Built for animation studios, it brings professional audio and Blender into the same production workflow, creating a new standard for scoring and synchronization in Blender-based pipelines.

While ReaBl does not add audio editing functionality directly into Blender, it creates a solid connection between Blender and Reaper — one of the best digital audio workstations available today — using the OSC communication protocol.

With ReaBl, you can:

  • keep animation and scoring aligned under the same timeline logic

  • bring professional audio workflow into Blender-based production

  • separate visual and audio work without boundaries

  • make Blender more effective across the full production workflow

  • support both solo creators and multi-machine studio setups

Reaper is a highly capable digital audio workstation known for its flexibility, speed, low overhead, deep customization, advanced routing, precise editing tools, plugin support, and a non-restrictive evaluation license.

ReaBl is distributed free of charge for everyone — both studios and individual users — and can be used without restrictions. It is available on Gumroad, together with full documentation.

A paid version is also available on Gumroad (and soon at Blender Market) for those who would like to support the development of the add-on. There is no difference in functionality between the two versions, except for support-related services, such as priority support, included with the paid version.

I also want to mention that I am currently working on an Ableton Live implementation of this workflow, as well as on new features for ReaBl.

I am also looking for help from the community with macOS installation testing and documentation. If anyone is interested in contributing to that part, your help would be greatly appreciated. Demos, tutorials, feature requests, workflow feedback, and contributions of any kind are also very welcome.

Thank you very much for your time, your interest, and your support. I hope ReaBl can be useful to artists, editors, and studios looking for a stronger connection between Blender and professional audio workflows.

Very very cool! I bought a copy on Gumroad – will try it out. Blender + Reaper are my two favourite software systems in the world : ) I’d tried the Jack transport but I couldn’t get it to work smoothly.

Great job as always David. Keep on it.

Ahhh, finally! Thanks, bro! I’ve been working with both programs and I didn’t realize how much I needed this. You’ve just made my job so much easier!

Yes, unfortunately, JACK support in Blender isn’t complete (which is normal for software like Blender that isn’t a musical instrument). However, the possibility of connecting Blender with audio editing tools opens up thousands of possibilities and new ways to use it. thank you very much for the support

thank you all for all your comments!

I m working an on some stavility stuff and preapring new features!

Hi everyone,

I’ve just uploaded a new ReaBL update.

This version adds a new viewport ** overlay** for Blender, available in both the 3D View and the VSE Preview.

This update includes

  • Large timecode display in the viewport and VSE preview
  • Local Blender marker popup display
  • Sync problem warnings when needed
  • Optional debug fields

This update also introduces the first public version of the ReaBL Bitwig extension, expanding the ReaBL workflow beyond REAPER and opening Bitwig support through its own dedicated extension.

Big thanks to the Bitwig team for their support and for facilitating a Bitwig license, which makes it possible for me to develop and maintain the Bitwig side of ReaBL.

And of course, thanks to everyone supporting the project and helping it move forward.
