Realistic Atmosphere In Cycles

that is absolutely awesome, superb work and thank you for sharing! looking forward to your video

nice,good job

Took some fiddling, but your atmo shader does a rather lovely job on non-spherical shapes too.

thatā€™s very nice, the fall off and colors in the atmosphere are great. really looking forward to his update and the video. hope the update is for 2.8+

Finally its here! The first barometric atmoshader for Blender!

Watch how to use it here: https://youtu.be/iZ8m5gQO_2o

Haha nice thanks! This was probably one of the nicest comments so far  Yah its not that complicated at its core but tweaking everything until it looks right is a real pain

Well if you want to use the newest version its out now!

Love it! Maybe a little heavy on the color shift but really nice idea!

Superb work. Thanks.

NASA lets me download 30KB/s :grimacing:

Yeah they dont have the fastest serversā€¦ but it should work in general

Btw, you forgot to link textures
or if YouTube is at fault then would be good idea to link them here or gumroad :man_shrugging:t2:

I did use my fingers and eyes to get them

Absolutely awesome  sent 5 euros your way like you suggested on your gumroad, much deserved. Danke vielmals

Iā€™m running the latest barometric volumetric shader in a render right now, and Iā€™ve run into a strange issue.

The previous versions have all worked a treat for me (image attached), but the latest wonā€™t seem to show up in viewport nor in render, despite my earth surface sphereā€™s dimensions matching the shaderā€™s earth surface dimensions. Canā€™t seem to figure out what Iā€™m doing wrong, but this one doesnā€™t seem to work for me. Blender v 2.8. Any thoughts?

From previous volumetric shader version:

This looks fantastic dude!

First of all: Really nice render you got going on there! :ok_hand: :ok_hand:
Could you maybe send me a screenshot of the shader node and the atmosphere n-panel?
And what version of blender are you using?

Hi Lasse,

Yep, Iā€™ll get those screenshots for you now. Itā€™s the strangest thing, I feel like Iā€™ve followed the instructions correctly, and my PC seems to be processing the volume itself (viewport rendering slows significantly as it would), but the atmosphere sphere is just black.

Iā€™m on v 2.80, by the way.

@DevilFX can we adjust atmosphere extending into space?
i tried decreasing the dimensions of atmosphere, but there is no realistic fade away into space and also ozone layer disappears.

i did this render and it shows that atmosphere layer is so big and extends to far into spaceā€¦ any thing i can do to make it small

but far away renders look sickā€¦

Whatch the video. All the settings are explained in there. Also the only thing not being accurate in this is the ozone denisty as i was only able to find density graphs and no formulas. So if you turn down the density of the ozone you will only see the air and that density is accurate to 5km which really isnt visible. It is accurate.
