Regarding Bevel

Hi,

I’m following a tutorial to model a four-panel door. I’ve followed the instructor’s steps, but for some reason the result didn’t turn out the way it did in the video.

The instructor used Bevel to “push” the panels out past the edge points (before Clamp Overlap), but when I used Bevel the panels didn’t get “pushed” out, but instead remain within. I’m stumped.

I have provided a link to videos for comparison, one from the tutorial and another from me.

Help will be appreciated. Thanks.

What is the scale of your object, in object mode?

There are now these supercool messages in blender.

So as thorn suggests, apply scale.
Menu → Object → Apply → Scale

(this is from your video)

EDIT 2:
I selected Scale and it now works.

Thanks for your help thorn and Debuk.

EDIT:
I didn’t notice the message at the bottom left. I’ll go back to Blender and try again.

Thanks for taking the time to help.

The Scale of the door is X = 0.419, Y = 0.018 and Z = 0.990.

Yeah, when you’re modeling you always want your scale to be 1/1/1. (Or more accurately, a 1/1/1 ratio).

ALL other things related to “visual scale stuff” should be done in edit mode. (Like if you want it to be squashed on the horizontal, etc.)
