What setting can prevent the renaming of objects in the outliner? Usually, double clicking left mouse on any object will make it rename-able, but not in my current scene anymore.
Show us a screenshot of your entire outliner pane? It might be in a mode that works different. You definitely ought to be able to hit F2
to rename in all the Outliner modes I know of, even if other things are going on (or Ctrl+F2
to batch rename).
I think it’ll be helpful if you post your image? I’m not sure at the moment
And there’s another way to change the name.
Hi,
Go to Edit → Preferences, in an opened pop-up menu, take a look at the left sidebar and click in there on Keymap section. Find there an Outliner tab, click on it and remove the mark from the second item off the top.
See screenshot for better understanding:
Hope it helps
Cheers,
Sergey
This did not work so far. Here is a screenshot of my outliner and preferences. I know there are other ways of renaming, I just find it so convenient to use the left mouse double click method and I would love to restore that option.
What do you mean? You can just disable it for Outliner, that’s it. After that, double-click renaming won’t be work anymore only for Outliner rename function.
I meant that I tried your solution but it did not work. When I revert back to factory settings the renaming works again as it should, so there is another preference setting that blocks it, but it is not related to the outliner preferences. Something else I am not aware of and have not found yet.
Well, there’s only two options you can do in there:
- Switch from LMB to another key,
- Disable it.
Try to rename it and set a different key for it.
Cheers
Most likely an addon did overwrite the shortcut. So make a note of which addons you have installed, deactivate maybe 10 of them. Restart. Test, reactivate them and so on…
that way you can try to narrow it down.
Alternatively you can have a look if the dbl click causes a prompt in the scripting workspace or look for filter for shortcuts with dbl click in your keymap.
Check if there are any other parts in the current settings

Thanks @Debuk , no addons. No time to did deeper right now, I stick with the f2 key for renaming for the time being. That works well as workaround.
