Rendering stereoscopic 360° Previews

I am currently working on an animation for a VR environment. Since I have to do test renders at certain stages of the project, I was wondering if there was ANY way to render a a preview of the scene in stereoscopic 360° instead of using cycles (or in cycles with some tweaks to really speed up the render).

I went through some threads and found no hints apart from OpenGL apperently not supporting 360° and Blender Internal being unreliable in that regard.

I just can’t imagine that there is no way I can get around rendering hours on end even when I only need a simple preview -.-
