Replace mesh object with Grease pencil object and vice versa

Can Grease Pencil objects be replaced with Mesh objects and vice versa? I am planning to work with Grease Pencil to sketch out my scene and to eventually replace the objects with mesh objects. Each Grease Pencil object (it’s origin) will be oriented the same way as if I were modeling with meshes.

The Link/ Transfer data menu pop-up (Ctrl+L) doesn’t allow me to link the object data between different object types.

I’m only new to grease pencil methodology but from my limited experience, can’t at the moment think of why your reasoning should present a problem.

The problem is Blender, it simply doesn’t link object data across different types of objects, perhaps if I convert it to a mesh first, but then it’ll be a one way process.
Unless you can do this through python…?

I am also new to Grease Pencil and I am not a draftsman at all. What I managed to do was in Object Mode select Grease Pencil object, right click and then “Convert” and then to… Is that what you mean?

No I don’t mean to convert the object, I want to replace it, like so:
