[Resolved] Why is my texture offset on my model?

I tried to follow this video to create a simple texture for a model. I painted the model white, then edited the generated image in GIMP to add detail. The texture is applied correctly to the model in the Texture Paint tab, but in the Layout tab with “Rendered” viewport shading it is significantly offset.

What’s going on, or how can I work around the problem?

Elsewhere I was advised that a new material with the texture attached worked fine. I am still curious what happened, but it is no longer a problem.
