rigged legs are going in the wrong direction

I am making a simple character. I started to rig its leg. after its done the leg goes in the wrong direction. is there a way to fix this?

The IK solver will find the shortest route between poses. You can either make the default pose (edit mode) with the knees slightly bent in the right direction as a hint for the IK solver, or (the more common method) create a floating bone in front of the knee and designate it as the ‘pole target’ in the IK constraint panel.

I did what you said know the leg goes to the right side when i move it i bent the knees slightly and i added the floating bone for the knee and did pole target.

You’re almost there! For some reason unknown to me the pole target always has to have its ANGLE field rotated (usually 90d) before it will make the knee point correctly. Don’t give up before trying this… Leave the knee pointing in the wonky direction and then in the IK constraint panel change the pole target rotation angle drag it slowly and watch the knee turn until it is right.

thank you DruBan it is going in the right direction know. thanks for the help:)
