I got this model sent over to me by a friend who had someone that wanted it rigged for toe joints. The model was originally in PMD format for MMD (thank goodness for the CATS plugin), and this is what I managed to get thus far:
I know what bone is causing it, It’s the newly added master toe bend bone I added to the foot. But I don’t know how to fix it (I tried removing any excess weight paint on it, but it didn’t work. For the record, it’s on both legs, the right has this same issue, but with the face). Nor do I know exactly why it’s doing that. Anyone got any ideas? I’m including the model just to get a better understanding of the issue I’m having and how to fix it.
And if anyone’s wondering about the twisted deformation around the foot, That’s because I don’t know what bone to parent the toe master to. Again an issue since I’ve never done a rigging effort on an MMD-based model with its way of doing IK rigs.
It’s not any kind of master bone that’s doing it, it’s 足首.L.011 – the second bone of the left pinky toe. To fix it, enter edit, select your foot only and hide it, then select all. Select the vertex group named 足首.L.011 and click “remove”. That’s the for the left leg.
For the head, the issue is 足首.L.013, the first joint of the right foot’s big toe.
You should parent the left toes to 足首.L – the left foot bone.
I used CATS’ “fix model” option and this happened. Any reason why the model would break like this? I was trying to fix this model’s broken ankle joints for use in MMD (as the export didn’t work the way I wanted to).
Your picture shows a couple different problems-- some improperly weighted vertices, missing images. Any of those are fixable, but I’m not sure which you’re asking about.
The general technique to figure out improper weights is to use weight paint mode in vertex mode so you can select individual, stray vertices, and then look at their weights on sidebar/item to figure out what group they belong to that they shouldn’t.
For some issues with MMD, it’s smarter to troubleshoot in something like PMXE than in Blender.
“Your picture shows a couple different problems-- some improperly weighted vertices, missing images. Any of those are fixable, but I’m not sure which you’re asking about.”
The textures were like that when I got the model. And I know about the improper weighting. That’s what happened when I used the plugin to fix it.
“Sorry, I don’t know what CATS is.”
A plugin that allows a user to import XNA, FBX and MMD models into Blender and clean them up. Which is what I was trying to do here, but as the pictures show, it didn’t work out so well.
