Rigs

I have used a few custom made rigs before and I’ve noticed that they modify the mesh diferently then I’m able to do. The only way I can find is by bones but they use what looks like custom made controls for knees the feet and etc. I was wondering how to make them myself

Create the object that you want to use as the control and put it in a layer that will not be used, or turn off its Render Options in the outliner. Meshes without faces work well as custom controls.

Under the Bone Properties expand the display tab and you will see a box for Custom Shape. Set this to the object you just created and you’re all set. Blender Cookie seems to be a good resource for the new interface.

in 2.49 it’s under the armature bones tab for editing(F9) … there should be a blanks spot that has OB: with tool tip saying object that defines custom draw shape. Also, have that W active to display object as wire-frame if there are no faces.
