I’ve been drawing up some robot concepts today. These are two that I thought were the best. I’m just getting into inkscape, so i decided to do a vector work from the second one. I need to work on the background, but right now i’m really tired and i need to go to bed…
Tell me what you think, and whether you think its worth modelling either ;).
Now that, is a pretty neat drawing there!
3d modeling it would be cool.
Though the inkscape version is pretty awesome already, you could put that right into a cartoon!
Thanks for the encouraging comments! I think I’ll have a go at the second one as yo suggested, though im worried about rigging the neck - with the tubing and pistons… i guess I’ll find a way.
Them pistons and tubing shouldn’t be too hard, I’m pretty sure I saw a tutorial on 'em somewhere (been following it myself). The pistons would have to make use of trackto contraints. If you want, I can try provide a .blend example
I’d love that actually - im hopeless at rigging. I have no idea to start. Do you know any good blender specific rigging tutes? i’ve looked at the introduction to character animation thing on the wiki, but it barely scratches the surface. I look at rigs like mancandy etc and i wonder where they learn all the advanced techniques from.
I’m pretty new to rigs myself. Mechanical rigs are much, much easier to start learning with. I’ve found the tutorial: http://www.blender.org/documentation/htmlI/x7891.html
There are also some other tutorials on rigging on that site, as well as IK examples and how to make tubes/hoses to follow your piston and all.
The base of the hydraulic cylinders should be parented to the robot’s body of course, but I only threw in a quickie model of a head. The cylinders themselves aren’t actually rigged, in fact the head need not to be rigged at all if all you want to show are “believable” pistons rather than animating it.
I hope you find 'em useful, and best of luck on the robot!
